One Locksmith Per Territory: Why We Turn Down 80% of Enquiries
We turn down most of the locksmith businesses that come to us. Not because they're bad businesses or because we're too busy — because we already work with someone in their area. One locksmith per territory. No exceptions. It's the rule that costs us the most revenue and earns us the most trust.

The conflict of interest nobody talks about
Think about what happens when a marketing agency runs Google Ads for two locksmiths in the same city. Both clients are targeting 'emergency locksmith Auckland'. Both are bidding on the same keywords, in the same geographic area, at the same time. The agency is literally bidding against itself — using one client's budget to drive up the other client's costs.
It gets worse. The agency knows exactly what both clients are bidding, what their ad copy says, what their budget is, and what their conversion rate looks like. They have inside information on both sides of the auction. In any other industry, that would be called a conflict of interest. In digital marketing, it's called Tuesday.
If your marketing agency also runs ads for your competitor, ask yourself: whose side are they on when they set the bids?
The performance argument
The ethical problem is reason enough. But there's a pure performance argument too. When we only work with one locksmith in a territory, we can go all in. We can target every relevant keyword aggressively. We can write ad copy that directly addresses what competitors are doing. We can build SEO content that aims to outrank every other locksmith in the area — because none of them are our clients.
When an agency runs two competing locksmiths, they have to pull punches. They can't make one client's ad copy directly counter the other's. They can't use competitive intelligence from Client A to benefit Client B. They end up running both accounts at 70% of their potential, because going 100% for one means hurting the other.
When we run competitive analysis for a client, we share everything — which competitors are bidding on what, what their ads say, where their weaknesses are. We can do that because none of those competitors are our clients. If they were, we'd have to hold back. That holding back costs you leads.
Why most agencies don't do this
Simple: money. If you specialise in locksmith marketing and there are 15 locksmiths in Auckland, turning down 14 of them is hard to swallow. Especially when each one is worth $1,500-3,000/month in management fees. The financial incentive to take everyone is enormous.
Most agencies solve this by pretending the conflict doesn't exist. 'We have a firewall between accounts.' 'Different team members manage each client.' 'We use different strategies for each.' None of that addresses the fundamental problem: your budget is competing with your competitor's budget, managed by the same company, using the same platform intelligence.
How we define territories
A territory isn't just a city name on a map. We define it based on where your customers actually search from and where your service area overlaps with potential competitors. For a locksmith in central Auckland, the territory might be the Auckland isthmus plus immediate surrounding suburbs. For a locksmith in a smaller city like Hamilton, it might be the entire metro area.
- We map your actual service radius — where you'll realistically send a technician
- We check for keyword overlap — if two locksmiths would be competing for the same searches, they're in the same territory
- We consider population density — urban areas might have room for tighter territories, rural areas need wider ones
- Once a territory is claimed, it stays claimed as long as that client is active with us
What this means for you
If you work with us, you get our full competitive intelligence, our most aggressive strategies, and the confidence that we're never going to use your data to help someone else take your customers. Your territory is yours. We invest in your success because your success is our only option in that area.
If you come to us and your territory is already taken, we'll tell you honestly. We won't string you along, we won't offer a watered-down service, and we won't pretend the conflict doesn't matter. We'll tell you no, explain why, and if we know of a good alternative, we'll point you there.
We keep a live map of claimed territories across New Zealand and Australia. If you're interested in working with us, the first step is checking whether your area is available. It takes 30 seconds — check your territory from the contact page.
